Two (2) Chinese Wine or Spirits Cups and Saucers with Iron Red Bat Decoration, Marked Qianlong Dynasty
Location of Manufacture: China
Marked: Qing Dynasty (1644-1912)
Dimensions of Each Cup: 1 5/8"(h), 2 1/8" rim diameter, 3/4" foot diameter
Diameter of Each Saucer: 4 3/8"
Combined Weight: 12 ounces
For your consideration are (2) rare Chinese porcelain wine or spirits cups and saucers with iron red bat decoration. The bat has long been synonymous with good fortune in Chinese culture and these cups and saucers depict groups of bats facing each other - one right side up and one upside down - an extra dose of luck. Each cup sits on a raised foot which, in turn, sits inside an interior raised ring on each of the saucers. All pieces are marked with an underglaze blue, hand-painted Zhuanshu or seal script mark. Rims and other flourishes on cups and saucers are complete with gilt details.
Provenance: From the Personal Collection of Renowned Antiques Dealer in New Orleans, Louisiana.
