Description
Antique Warner's Safe Liver and Kidney Cure Rochester NY Amber Bottle. The bottle has an embossed label on the front and an image of a strongbox. Warner's Rochester business began in 1878. The business was started by HH Warner, a patent medicine mogul. The word "Safe" refers to the owner's previous business selling fireproof and burglar-proof safes. The contents of the bottle were purported to be a "cure" for a wide variety of liver and kidney conditions. In 1906 the passage of the Food and Drug Act prohibited the use of the word "cure." In fact, the contents of the bottle actually proved harmful to kidney and liver conditions because it contained alcohol, potassium nitrate, and glycerin. Rather than being a cure, the contents were more likely to hasten death in sufferers. Is approx 4" x 2" x 9 1/2" and it weighs 1lb. The bottle is in a good, vintage condition with some light chemical residue and light wear and bubbles on the back. Please see the images as they are part of the description.
