Late 19th Century Rustic carpenter's woodworking bench, or Schnitzelbank, likely handmade by the carpenter themselves. This piece is a combination vice and workbench used in green woodworking, or crafting from unseasoned (green) timber. Its most typical utilization is for creating a rounded profile from a square piece (i.e., table legs) or preparing a piece for a lathe. The "pedal" on the bottom is connected to the vice and activates a clamp to hold the lumber in place. This was considered *the* item for any laborer to have before the advent of electric machinery. Due to the item's age, this piece is being sold as a display and has not been tested. Structurally and cosmetically, it appears to be in good condition.
