Van Campenhout often painted scenes of Paris where he lived and worked for a time. This painting depicts a night time view of the city and the fashions of the 1950s are evident.

Frame: 21 1/4" x 25 1/4" (51.5 cm x 64 cm)
PROVENANCE: San Francisco estate.
CONDITION: Excellent condition with no damage or restoration. Framed in a Swedish period mid-century frame. Frame with light wear.
NOTES / REFERENCES: Jan Van CAMPENHOUT (1907 - 1972) was a figurative Belgian painter and graphic artist from the mid-20th century. He published an album with reproductions of 25 pen drawings under the name "Historische Monumenten & Gebouwen" (Anderlecht, Aarschot, Zoutleeuw...). In the 1950s and 1960s he lived and worked in the Van Iseghemlaan in Ostend and often exhibited there in the gallery "La Coupole". He often traveled and sometimes lived in Paris. Stylistically and in terms of content, he can be compared to Jacques Callaert from Middelkerke, Belgium.
