Description
McIntosh 275 stereo amplifier with KT88 tubes (Tested- See Condition Report)
Condition
Tested by TCTubes: "Power cord has been removed. Probably was a bad cord. I bypassed the cord and clipped ac power in where it belongs in the amp for testing purposes. First attempt to run/test resulted in oscillations and some pulsing. I recognize this as often having to do with wrong tubes in the front end. That was indeed the case. The print on the chassis isn't fully present so some of the tube sockets are not labeled well enough to know which small signal tube type is needed in some of the sockets. I figured out which version of MC275 this is and below is the correct tube chart for the small signal tubes: V1: (first small signal tube closest to the controls with the shield capable socket) 12AX7 V2: 12AU7 V3: 12BH7 V4: 12AZ7 (or 12AT7) V5: 12AU7 V6: 12BH7 V7: 12AZ7 (or 12AT7) I installed some tubes from our inventory to get a correct set in and I was able to verify that this amplifier will work. It's mostly in original condition so it needs to be restored before it can be used. The thermistor/current limiter in this amplifier is bad. I had to bypass that to get the amplifier to run. Installing a cord without the other work it needs is really just asking for trouble. Also, many audiophiles who might buy this may want to do something special for a cord. The tubes work well enough to pass audio when the amplifier is run conservatively on a variac. The power tubes are particularly valuable if they are good testing. Of course, when I ran it, I used three tubes from TC Tubes inventory. The three that were in this amp that I didn't use, are not tested in any way. *3 new tubes have been purchased and installed in this amp.* Selector switch on front of amp for selecting mode of operation is broken off. It can still be moved with a tool and some care. I set it up in the stereo position. I put the tubes that I didn't use in the amp for testing in a baggy in the box with the amp."
