Item Details
Description
Large display or exhibition print by contemporary California artist, Salvatore Pecoraro (born 1936). Titled: "365 Skies 1970 - Detail" the image is a photographic close-up of his monumental group of paintings. This print was made at a later date.

An ambitious work of endurance and patience created from 1969-1971, "365 Skies 1970" catalogues an entire year’s worth of California skies painted on 365 individual vacuum-formed white styrene panels that ultimately assemble into an expansive 7’ by 52’ foot chronological calendar. Revolutionary for the time, in both the process and materials used, 365 Skies 1970 should ultimately be understood as predicating later important art practice advancements of the post-WWII era. ( from the exhibition of the work at the Triton Museum of Art, Santa Clara, California)

Gigclee ink pigments on thick Strathmore artists stock. Matted, unframed.

Signed and titled by the artist, in pencil, under the image. Artists embossed studio stamp: Studio SP Campobello

NOTES / REFERENCES: Salvatore Pecoraro attended the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland in the late 1950's, and went on to earn a master's degree in printmaking from San Francisco State University in 1966.

From 1969 to 1971, he made waves with his ambitious, large-scale work, 365 Skies 1970. Made up of 365 one foot square styrene panels, each panel is an airbrushed, acrylic painting of the sky in California, one for every day of the year in 1970. These paintings are based on photographs, and when assembled chronologically, stand a towering seven feet high and span 52 feet horizontally.

Salvatore Pecoraro's work is in many corporate, private, and Museum collections. He currently works at his 10,000 square foot studio, Studio Campobello in the mountains of Santa Cruz.
