David Roberts (Scottish, 1796-1864) "Citadel of Jerusalem". This hand-colored lithograph depicting a view of the Citadel of Jerusalem is from a 1841 watercolor (recreating the original sketch) and was subsequently published as lithograph the same year. The work is part of a series of lithographs all from drawings by Roberts during his travels in 1838-1839 through Egypt and the Holy Land. Upon his return and in collaboration with Louis Haghe lithographs were created of these drawings which were then published and printed by F.G. Moon, 20 Threadneedle Street, London. Notation with date of original watercolor and location in the plate lower left, publishers information in margin lower center as well as the title. Provenance: Phyllis Lucas Gallery, NYC.
