Kasamatsu Shiro - The Main Gate of Zojoji Temple. Japanese woodblock print.
The first edition of this design was published in 1953. The current print was printed in the Reiwa period (2019 - present).
Size of the image (excluding margins) in centimeters 36.5 x 24.0 (14.4 x 9.5 inches).
The state of the print is good, without flaws.
Shiro Kasamatsu (1898-1881) studied arts under Kaburagi Kiyokata. He designed his first woodblock prints for Watanabe Shozaburo in 1919, after the publisher had seen his work at an exhibition. He designed shin-hanga prints for Watanabe for a long period, and gained fame with his romantic landscapesand depictions of the traditional Japanese life. Between 1952 and 1960 he also created over 100 woodblock print designs for the Kyoto publisher Unsodo. Shiro Kasamatsu is generally regarded as one of the top shin-hanga woodblock print artists in Japan.
