Description
Americas or Philippines, Spanish Colonial era, ca. 19th century CE. A large and very fine carved wooden santos of Madonna and Christ child standing on a celestial cloud pedestal with a cherub heads. The robes and hair flowing in dramatic billows creating a nice sense of wind / movement, and the surface highlighted in polychrome pigments. Size: 10" W x 23.5" H (25.4 cm x 59.7 cm)
Provenance: private Owen collection, Sussex County, New Jersey, USA, acquired from a major New York City, New York, USA antiquities dealer in the 1990s

Condition
Losses to Christ's hand / fingers. Piece of blue robe behind Christ and node of Mary's hair on left is reattached with visible break lines. Stable pressure fissures throughout and minor abrasions. Pigments are likely retouched in modern times.
