Near East, The Levant, Turkey / Iran, Late Bronze Age to Iron Age, ca. 1600 to 500 BCE. An oval stone mortar and petite conical pestle, the two tools are made from different stone types and might not be a matched pair. The mortar and pestle are among mankind's oldest implements, used for preparation of food, medicines, pigments, unguents, and perfumes. Size of mortar: 4.25" L x 3" W x 1.6" H (10.8 cm x 7.6 cm x 4.1 cm)

Wear from age and use, old chip to mortar rim otherwise intact. Light mineral deposits and felt pads added to feet for stability. Pestle and mortar are probably not a matching pair.
