“The Sign of Four” Pocket Watch by Ingersoll. England: Ingersoll Ltd., [ca. 1950s]. Metal pocket watch with original crystal; artwork on the watch face is of Sherlock Holmes following footprints, after “Abbey,” (most likely Joseph Abbey (1889-1954), and not his brother, Salomon) and is captioned “The Sign of Four by Arthur Conan Doyle”. Watch approximately 2 ?” in diameter. Some soiling, light wear to crystal, hands move, but watch mechanism requires adjustment (the watch no longer runs). Offered with: DOYLE, Sir Arthur Conan (1859-1930). The Sign of Four. London: John Murray, [1966]. 8vo. Original wrappers (front wrapper with the same artwork as the watch; some light wear to wrappers). Later edition. Pocket watch is rare and unusual; this is the only example seen by Mr. Hess in his 40 years of collecting.
