Item Details
Description

1979 Mercedes-Benz SL 350 with hardtop Chassis no. WDB10704310014104 • 1 of only 8 in Topas Brown • Rare 4-speed manual gearbox with limited-slip differential • Desirable Werksauslieferung, German delivery • Believed just 139,000 kms from new * Please note that this car will be available for viewing by prior appointment in Belgium. The Mercedes SL R107 range finally came to an end in 1989 after being in production for an almost unprecedented 18 years. That's quite a run, especially when you consider that it remained largely unaltered from when it first emerged in 1971. Always more of a sporting grand tourer than a fully-fledged sports car, the SL was supplied with a standard folding fabric roof, while the optional hardtop gave almost saloon-like levels of civility. With the hardtop option box ticked, the convertible SL was a truly all-purpose, all-season car. This is a very rare car for numerous reasons. Firstly, it is a 'lightweight competition' version. Secondly, it has a 4-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential. Thirdly, it is one of only 8 cars ordered in the special colour of 'Topas Brown'. Delivered new in January 1979, in Mulheim a.d. Ruhr, Germany to Dr. Med. Dieter Kaul, the car's early years of use and maintenance can be traced through the original service book, which shows that the car had 121,900 kms on the odometer when it was put into storage in Belgium in 1998. Sold to the current owner just two years ago, he had extensive work carried out including reupholstering the brown seats (they had tears and unfortunately couldn't be saved), he had the car thoroughly overhauled, recommissioned and prepared for road use. The car comes with NL registration documents, its original stamped service book, the original Datenkart, build details confirming its 'lightweight competition' status, an owners' manual in the original pouch, and a 2nd key.
