Description
Believed to be a Prussian Garde pickelhaube based on the front plate: a brass crowned eagle with a banner reading "mitt gott fur koenig und vaterland" across its wingspan and a stamped silver star across its breast. The year 1908 is stamped on the underside of the neck guard along with the code of the issuing depot (in this case B.A.G. Berlin). The stamp designating the exact regiment is badly faded and illegible. The boiled leather portions of the helmet are in fair condition given the piece's age. The soft leather lining the inside of the helmet is deteriorating and pulling away from its fastenings. Chinscale strap is missing. The front plate is unfortunately loosening as well. A unique piece of history nevertheless. Keywords: pickelhelm, German, Germany, Prussia, militaria, soldier, uniform, regalia, outfit
