An elegantly shaped Italian Crown Naples Capodimonte, hinged and lidded box.In stylized tear drop form the fabulous box has an ornately moulded and polychrome finished lid depicting a mythical scene with Posieden at the center wearing a crown and three pronged staff with an attendant behind. Both are standing on a gilt finished chariot with numerous winged putti or cherubs to the sky with mermaid mythical figures in the sea with fish about. The sea with white caps to denote its turbulence.The trim of the cover with moulded embossed decoration in polychrome colors.The body of the box with a nautical scene with mythical part man part fish figures with horns and scaly lower bodies can be seen elevated just above the sea.Brass trim around the lid of the box with the mounted trim around the box and lid with decorative scrollwork.Marked underfoot.Ca. 19th century.3 3/8"H x 6 3/4"W x 7 3/8"DCondition: The gilt metal mounts are bent and are no longer affixed to a section of the front of the box causing the box lid to pull to one side which could be repaired to not endure further wear and damage.There is also wear to the polychrome finish around the box.
