[LATE INDIAN WARS]. A group of 2 photographs of Fort Cummings and Fort Bayard, New Mexico. 1880.
4 3/8 x 3 7/16 in. silver gelatin photograph on cardstock mount (light toning and wear to edges of print; mount with large crack extending diagonally across lower right portion, occasional spotting/soiling, and corner wear). Verso pencil inscription reads "Fort Cummings 1880." Image features a group of civilian men and women posed among carriages and tents, with a flag flying overhead bearing partly indecipherable text: "Su[?][?]e C[?][?]p." -- 6 1/2 x 4 5/8 in. silver gelatin photograph on cardstock mount (toning and wear to edges of print; mount with spotting, toning, and corner wear). Verso pencil inscription reads "Fort Bayard. 1880." Image features a group of military and civilian subjects including men, women, and children, posed together in front of several tents.
Provenance: Ex Dorothy Sloan collection.
Both Forts Cummings and Bayard were used during the Apache Wars, specifically Victorio's War when these photographs were captured, ca 1879-1880.
