Yoruba Peoples, Nigeria, Polychrome Carved Wood Standing Female Figure, H 3' 8'' W 9" Depth 8" | Female figure with a high coiffure colored with blue pigment and three scarification marks on each cheek. a necklace of incised rectangles and green, blue, and white geometric designs decorates the figure's neck. Figure wears a black skirt with white and orange circles and a white band. This figure may have been a shrine figure for a Yoruba deity.

Condition

Multiple small gouges near top of figure's head. Fading of pigment on all over coiffure, with losses to pigment at the top of the back of the head. Some scratches and loss to pigment on front of skirt.
