Description
China, Shang Dynasty, ca. 1600 to 1046 BCE. The Shang Dynasty is the first Chinese dynasty in its recorded (emphasis on recorded) history. During this period China was known for its incredible skill in carving jade, one of the hardest minerals in existence. Long, thin implement - possibly a ceremonial knife, scepter. Lovely deep brown jade of trapezoidal form with biconical drilled hole toward top (thin section). Size: 5.125" L x .625" W (13 cm x 1.6 cm)

Comes in old, dove-tailed, wooden box with purple silk inner liner. Old inscription inside lid. Item has been tested using our XRF equipment and tests conclusively as nephrite jade.

Provenance: private Brighton, Massachusetts, USA collection acquired in Hong Kong in 1986
