Description
A Victorian silver and hardstone mounted vinaigretteCirca 1850 of barrel form, with foliate mounts, set vertically with vari-coloured concave agates, the hinged cover set with a foil-backed quartz, opening to reveal a pierced gilt grill, , height 6.8cm.
Condition
The silver mount at the base has been separated from the body at some time and has been glued back. There is a single short split to this silver mount. Two of the long vertical agate panels extending to the base do not show the same high sheen as the others and may be replacements. Two of those vertical agate panels are chipped at the junction with the mount but there is a line of glue encircling the join between the agate panels and the silver mount and this may be obscuring further chipping.
