Item Details
Description
The bronze ring in question is an antique Roman signet, used between the 1st and 3rd centuries AD, encapsulating the image of Apollo, the Greco-Roman deity. The ring, corresponding to a US size 9, exemplifies the intricate metalwork of Roman craftsmanship. Apollo's bust, a common motif, signifies the wearer's cultural and possibly religious affiliations, as Apollo was associated with various aspects including music, poetry, and the sun.

This piece comes with a distinguished provenance, having been initially discovered as part of a Roman site excavation in the early 1900s. It entered the British antiques market and was acquired by Mr. F.L., an avid collector from Manchester, in the 1960s. The ring has been a part of his esteemed collection until it was passed on to his heirs in 2001.
