Description
"Cattle in the Storm", key item, mint, F-VF. The inspiration for the design for the vignette was based on the "Vanguard' painting by Scottish artist John A. MacWhirter. MacWhirter painted these cattle in the West Highlands of Scotland. This stamp is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful US stamps. Number issued: 56,900. Off Center Design. Perfs touch rt edge in a couple of places. Previously hinged. Gum not complete. Some damage to upper corners where it may have been mounted in an album with some adhesion. Minor crease at center on reverse but it's not visible on the front.
