Description

Alphonse Giroux (French, 1776-1848). A French brass inlaid ebonized wood traveling artist's box marked "Alph. Giroux et Cie. a Paris", with accessories. Box has inlaid brass banding and inlaid imperial crown of Russia, flanked by inset hinged handles. Drawers include watercolor pigment jars; six cedar pencils with gilt knobs, stamped "William Pandin"; gilt steel drawing pen; gilt steel pen holder; a point; eraser; three gilt knives; paintbrushes; two rosewood drawing aids; a rosewood palette; and smaller cherry wood palette. Key is present. 8in tall x 20in wide. Provenance: Gift from Duke Radziwell to the Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna in 1875. Acquired by the Robert Addison Day Family.
