Description
Ca. 1st-2nd Century AD.A wheel-thrown pottery jug with a flat base and a wide-bodied form with a noticeable carination and sloped shoulder. It is equipped with a short, tubular neck leading to a round and prominent rim positioned just in front of an arching handle. The body displays several horizontal grooves, indicative of the wheel-throwing technique, and bears a subtle layer of glaze. Cf. Christie's Live Auction 2450 Antiquities, 9 June 2011, Lot 35.
