Ca. AD 200-300.A D-shaped silver finger ring of a smooth hoop with broad shoulders bearing a bezel set with jasper stone intaglio with an allegorical depiction of a rooster facing a cornucopia, the horn of plenty. The bird is standing on top of a chalice which is surrounded by wheat ears. This engraved motif would have been an allegory of prosperity and fortune. Size: D:19.15mm / US: 9 1/4 / UK: S; Weight: 36.6g Provenance: Property of a West London gentleman; previously in a collection formed on the UK/International art market in the 1990s.
