Description
RARE 14/15thC Sukhothai bronze ball that makes a jingling sound when shaken. Approx 1 and 7/8 inches across. It makes a beautiful metallic sound when shaken. The legend is that the dogs would bark when the Burmese invaders would come marching/riding towards them, and the ground would shake. The balls, which would be inside the temple walls, would shake and make a distinctive metallic sound. This would act as an early warning system which would allow the Sukothai people to prepare for the oncoming invasion. I've seen 4 of these balls over the past 30 years. Two of them came out of a small private museum in Sukhothai (he had 3 of them but would only sell 2) that was closing down, and the other was purchased in Bangkok in a high-end antique shop about 20 years later. All three balls of this type came with the same story. Unique itemDomestic shipping is included, and international shipping is $50, including packing and insurance to anywhere in the world.
