Koka Ignatov, "Stones", mixed media painting on paper.
Encaustic, mixed media on heavy paper; 37" x 24.1/2" [94.3cm x 62.3cm]; unframed, a few small corner issues, very good condition.
The Certification of Authenticity is included. The detailed provenance, the chronology of ownership, goes back to the artist's studio.
Nikoloz [Koka] Ignatov, (July 29, 1937 - May 6, 2002) was one of the leading Georgian artists of the 20th century.
Ignatov was easel and monumental painter, theater and cinema artist, book illustrator. There is a museum dedicated to him in Tbilisi.
He studied at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. In 1972, he received a Georgian National Award for his monumental mural "The Homage to Pirosmani". In the 1980s, he was an appointed professor at the Georgian Art Academy Tbilisi. In 1988, Ignatov received an official title of People's Artist of the Georgian Republic for his monumental Rustaveli Theater murals. He also worked in Berlin and Paris.
