Description
Stephen Litchfield (American, b. 1948) 2 Altered Chairs. Wood. Size: 1) 30.5'' x 6'' x 7'' (77 x 15 x 18 cm); 2) 34'' x 7'' x 6'' (86 x 18 x 15 cm). Provenance: The Robert L. Pfannebecker Collection. Artist Biography: Stephen Litchfield earned his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is currently an adjunct assistant professor at Kent State University. His work deals with ordinary utilitarian objects and ideas of perception, memory, and function. He transforms common objects into self-contradictory versions of themselves by conflating familiar form characteristics with alterations of the object’s essential dimensions. The result is an altered object that at once evokes and denies its function.
