Description
Edward Weston
(1886-1958)
"Chandler in Mexican Costume," 1924
Gelatin silver print on paper
Appears unsigned
Image/Sheet: 3.875" H x 2.875" W
Provenance: The Estate of Dr. Amy Conger
Literature: Conger 126/1924
Other Notes: "Chandler recalled that these pictures were made on the roof of the house at Calle Lucerna. Therefore, they had to have been made between September 1923 and mid-May 1924. In the five that have been located from the series, shadows from the sombrero block Chandler's face, suggesting that these compositions should be appreciated more as studies in light and shadow than as conventional portraits."
Interview with Chandler Weston, 8 March 1980.
Figures 127-28/1924, and Conger (1982), 24/26-29.
