This lot consists of a hand painted oil on canvas surrealism landscape. Gertrude Abercrombie (February 17, 1909 July 3, 1977) was an American painter based in Chicago. Called "the queen of the bohemian artists", Abercrombie was involved in the Chicago jazz scene and was friends with musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, and Sarah Vaughan, whose music inspired her own creative work.Though Abercrombie didn’t pay much attention to the art of her time, she did cite René Magritte as an important influence on her practice. The artist died on April 3, 1977 in Chicago, IL. The lot is rendered in the contemporary illusionistic style of Gertrude Abercrombie.
