SHANGHAI Album of 93 views of Shanghai and China, and portrait or group studies of Chinese subjects, attributable to William Saunders, Lai Fong, H.C. Cammidge, 93 albumen prints of Chinese subjects (typically 210 x 270mm., many copy prints shown with rounded edges), and 12 colour-tinted albumen prints of Japanese costumed female subjects, mounted on sheets recto and verso, variable toning, contemporary half morocco, worn, oblong 4to (260 x 330mm.), [1880-1890s] Footnotes: Good album of views (57, many of Shanghai including 11 views seemingly forming a panorama of the Bund), and portraits, trades and types (36, including Chinese actors, street shops, noble men and families, etc.) by professional Western and Chinese photographers. Provenance: Samuel John Tite (born at St. Heliers, Jersey in 1867). Loose with the album are his 'Certificates of Service' for the Royal Navy starting in 1886, recording visits to Hong Kong, and also that he served on H.M.S.
