Palatial Pair of Louis XV Ormolu-Mounted Marble Four-Light Candelabra
early 20th century, attributed to Henri Vian (French, 1860-1905), deep crimson ovoid marble urns, decorated with finely cast dore bronze Royal Ram head and acanthus mounts, the covers issuing four foliate arms with rising central berried finial, raised on a pedestal socle, unmarked.
26 1/2 x 13 1/2 x 13 1/2 in.
Henri Vian was the celebrated bronzier who specialized in the production of bronzes in the 18th century style, particularly light fittings. He participated in the Great Exhibitions of 1878, 1889 and 1900 and received a Gold Medal in 1889. His workshop was based at 5 rue de Thorigny in Paris. His wife and son ran the business after his death in 1905 until 1944, when the city of Paris took over the premises for the l'Ecole des Métiers d'Art.

One pedestal with cracks and restoration; one foliate arm slightly canted upward; a few small chips to the base edges; one screw missing to lower mount beneath ram's head; some rubbing to gilt and wax residue from use; not wired, but mounts and base prepared for use as lamps.
