Description
EERO SAARINEN DINING TABLE, DESIGNED FOR KNOLL FURNITURE, LATE 20TH CENTURY, a circular gray veined white polished coated marble top on a white cast aluminum pedestal. Height: 29 1/2" Diameter: 54" Note: This was part of Eero Saarinen's final design range before he passed away in 1961. The revolutionary Pedestal Collection, also known as the Tulip Series, was Saarinen's answer for eradicating the fussiness of traditional furniture forms, which he believed contributed to "an ugly, confusing, unrestful world." Saarinen's greatest concern was the visual clutter plaguing the interior space caused by "the slum of legs." Thus, each piece in the collection, including the table being offered, is supported by a simple pedestal base accentuated only by the smooth lines of modernism. Today, Eero Saarinen's Pedestal Collection is regarded as one of the definitive triumphs of modern design. Provenance: Collection of P. Solnik, Houston, Texas.
Condition
Minor surface wear, some small scuffs to the base. No apparent brand markings, numbers or labels.
