Description
A Victorian christening mug, having foliate embossed decoration enclosing central initial and date engraving, and a cased set of salts, each having frilled rims and three ball feet with four condiment spoons, hallmarked Hilliard & Thomason, Birmingham 1876 and 1877 and one spoon Joseph Gloster Ltd, Birmingham 1903, plus matched Queen's Pattern style knife, fork and spoon set, all with monogram engraving, hallmarked William Eaton, London 1830 and A B Savory & Sons (William Smily), London 1857. Height of mug 8.5cm. Overall weight 6.7ozt (210.2g).
Condition Report:- Item show varying degrees of surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing.
- Mug is very darkly tarnished and would benefit from a clean and polish.
- Widest part of mug's body shows some bashes.
- Silver to open salts is very dull and dirty, with darker tarnishing evident around rims.
- Condiment spoon hallmarked differently to others is very slightly larger.
- Fork tines to set are very slightly bent.
- Knife and underside of spoon bowl are darkly tarnished.
- Push lock is broken to case containing cased salts.
- One hook clasp is missing from case containing christening set.
- Condition reports are offered as a guide only and we highly recommend inspecting any lot to satisfy yourself as to its condition.
