19TH CENTURY LARGE TWO-SIDED COUNTRY GAME BOARD IN ORIGINAL PAINT FINISH.Overall size: 19” wide x 29” high. Excellent condition.Canadian checkers (or draughts) were played on a 12 x 12 checkered board with 30 game pieces per play. American checkers was an 8 x 8 grid, consisting of 64 squares. The idea of an increased-size international draughts game is older still; boards with 12 x 12 squares were on sale in London in 1805. The game was invented by the French settlers of Quebec, Canada: it was named Grand jeu de dames.
