Description
Rogers, Jay (American/Tenessee b. 1928) Frog, mid to late 20th century. Found, carved, and painted wood and metal sculpture. Incised signature at underside. Printed informational tag including the artist's biography tied around the frog's neck with a piece of yarn. 3.75 x 13 x 8 inches. Jay Rogers is a Self-Taught/Outsider artist living and working in Tenessee. Rogers worked in various positions such as sheetmetal worker and cabinet maker before beginning his art practice. His work quickly caught the attention of East Tennesseans, which enabled him to become a full time artist. Taken from the informational tag, he is quoted as saying "Most of what I find by the rivers edge or in the woods...it reminds me of something and as I work on it, I try to bring it to the surface".
