A pair of German propaganda leaflets dropped behind enemy lines during the war and urging the soldiers to surrender, measuring 6 x 8 in. each. The first a cemetery with the Statue of Liberty in the backdrop and text on verso stating that ‘America has no real war aim…You are fighting and perhaps dying to hand over Europe to a Bolshevik slavery worse than death…Liberty, what crimes are committed in thy name!’. Small tear at bottom and loss at lower left corner, still good. The second shows a couple in a loving embrace on one side, while the other has a grim illustration of a buried soldier lorded over by an Russian Mongolian character, with a note from ‘Elsie’ asking when he will be home at his side. Folds, light wear, very good.
