Highly desirable SS pin, 2 in., of nickel silver construction with a black enameled face, worn by the financial supporters of the SS. The obverse depicts the runic emblem of the SS superimposed over a swastika, bearing the letters ‘F M’ for ‘Forderndes Mitglied’ (‘Supporting Member’). The oval badge displays a pebbled border and is soldered to the proper knurled shaft. Several markings on the reverse, including the serial number ‘A4558’, maker mark of Deschler in Munich, and ‘Ges. Gesch.’ These pins are getting rather difficult to find, and this example exhibits only the lightest wear, in fine condition. Wearers of these pins were members of the Allgemeine-SS who did not participate actively, but instead supported the SS through financial donations. They were required to be of ‘Aryan’ ancestry and could give as little as one Reichsmark per month. Postwar, some of these supporters were legally incriminated by the Allied authorities equal to active SS members.
