Description
1947-Mo Mexico ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS 5 Silver Pesos KM-465 Grades GEM+ Unc. Mexico's silver coin tradition is the oldest in the Americas and this much-admired, short-lived type issued by the Bank of Mexico ranks very high in popularity. Shown is a deeply embossed portrait of the valiant Cuauhtémoc, nephew of Montezuma and the last Aztec ruler. He defied Hernán Cortéz's demand for gold treasure and suffered torture and death in stoic silence. The obverse of this 90% silver coin shows an eagle perched on a cactus killing a snake, in reference to an Aztec legend about the founding of Mexico City
