An 18K Yellow Gold, Natural Pearl, and Diamond Brooch Attributed to Boucheron

A 14K yellow and white gold brooch attributed to Boucheron circa 1900, depicting an old mine-cut, single-cut, and rose-cut diamond-accented coiled serpent and arrow centering a natural semi-baroque pearl measuring approximately 12.80mm. Below the pearl lies the serpent head se with an old mine-cut diamond weighing approximately 0.40 carats holding in its mouth two tri-leaf branches suspending a natural pearl drop measuring approximately 14.50mm x 9.30mm. Diamonds are near colorless to faint color (G – K), with SI – I clarity. Total estimated weight of diamonds: 2.30 carats. Accompanied by a photo of GIA Report Number: 5151455589.

Overall Condition: Scratches and wear consistent with age, clasp in working order, metal not legibly stamped, testing as 14K, several diamonds missing, may require additional cleaning. Accompanied by original Boucheron box. 

Pearls: Two natural saltwater Pinctada pearls, one semi-baroque measuring approximately 12.81mm x 12.31mm x 12.17mm with orient overtone, and one drop pearl measuring approximately 13.85mm x 9.36mm x 8.46mm with no overtone. Accompanied by a photo of GIA Report Number: 5151455589 dated May 22, 2013. 

Diamonds: One hundred thirty-eight old mine-cut, single-cut, and rose-cut diamonds measuring from approximately 0.50mm at the smallest to approximately 4.50mm at the largest, near colorless to faint color (G – K), with SI – I clarity. One diamond is displaying a pink color. Total estimated weight of diamonds: 2.30 carats.



Provenance
Private collection, Batesville, Virginia. Originally owned by Godfrey Herbert Williams, owner of St. Donat’s Castle in Glamorganshire Wales and Southern coal mines. His wife Miriam Isabel Williams, daughter of the 5th Lord Rendlesham, gave the brooch to her daughter Josephine Juliet on her marriage to Anthony Guinness, then gifted to her daughter upon her marriage in 1957.
