Description
Purple wool Gianni Versace jacket with blue leather belt stamped MAYR formerly owned by Sir Elton Hercules John CH CBE. Consisting of a purple wool tailored jacket with a wide lapel and ornate black pattern on sleeves and chest with matching purple buttons. Lavender colored lining with "Gianni Versace - Made in Italy" maker's label intact. There are two interior breast pockets - one having a button and the other never having had a button which is also hiding a factory attached label which reads "Mod. 24-50-505 Art 1766-700 Coord. ELTON JOHN" - with the details hand written in purple ink as shown in photo. Belt is blue colored leather with possibly silver plated clasp. "90/36" is stamped inside on one end and MAYR stamped inside on the other end.
Purchased at the "Out the Closet" shop in London in 1994, a charity shop of some of Sir Elton's personal items set up to raise money for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. This sale was set up in conjunction with the December 1st World Aids Day concert, part of a 12-show run of concerts with Ray Cooper held at the Royal Albert Hall with guest performances by Kiki Dee, Boy George, Lisa Stansfield and George Michael. Images of the tickets to the Wednesday, November 30th and Thursday, December 1st concerts and a post regarding the event from Elton are for reference only and are not part of the sale. This jacket has not been photo matched. We have provided three photos taken by the consignor and his friend at this event including one of Elton cutting the ceremonial ribbon. Condition
Jacket exhibits some minor wear or discoloration on the shoulder and near the bottom of the right sleeve. There are a dozen or so small 1 to 6 mm holes as shown in photos with the average being about 2 mm. Belt is warped and has some wear on inside. Please review photos closely and please ask if you would like additional photos and we will do our best to accommodate you.
