A pair of Chinese Export porcelain tea bowls with the Arms of Hamond, circa 1790

With “Rockefeller” type patterning, including shaped and quatrefoil reserves depicting birds and landscape scenes, and an oval reserve to either side bearing the Arms of Hamond.

H: 2 in. Dia: 4 ¼ in.

This service was likely made for Andrew Snape Hammond, a naval commander of the H.M.S. Roebuck in the Revolutionary War, who was later appointed Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. In 1779, he married Anne Graeme, the daughter of Henry Graeme of Hanwell, Middlesex. A part dinner service in the same pattern, sold from the collection of Sir Egerton Graeme, was offered as lot 219 at Christie's, London on May 15, 1993.

lot 46: one tea bowl: a few tiny rim flecks / knicks, with some retouching along rim, some loss to gilt decoration, particularly to one side, a few hairlines along body; other tea bowl: some minor roughness along rim, with some minor retouching along rim, some loss to gilding, small enamel imperfection to well, a couple discreet hairlines along body
