Framed: 20" x 26". One year before his passing Walter Feldman exhibited his WW II "Memorial" paintings at the Dodge House Gallery of the Providence Art Club. This series was inspired by his recent trip to the nation’s capital. Feldman describes that event, “in June 2014, I was invited to participate in a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the Normandy Beaches landing by the Allied Troops during World War II. I had served with both the US 82nd and 83rd infantry divisions and am a Purple Heart recipient with four battle stars.” WWII haunted Feldman's imagery in his final Memorial series with visions of snipers, American flags and destruction. These images are powerful reminders of the memories of war. Walter S. Feldman completed his art study with a BFA from Yale University School of Fine Arts in 1950 and an MFA from Yale School of Design in 1951. A student of Josef Albers upon his return from WWII, Feldman absorbed many of the concepts of Albers. However, he evolved a more expressionist style with a particular interest in symbols.
