Description
Walter Feldman (1925-2017). "Vivaldi Flute Concerto", 2012. Pen & ink on handmade paper. Signed, dated and titled in pencil, lower margin. Dimensions: 13" x 18" (image); matted: 21" x 28". In 2012, Feldman started a series of pen and ink drawings on handmade paper. These exquisitely detailed ink drawing were executed while listening to various classical music works such as in this case Vivaldi. Feldman loved music and movies. His wife was a music teacher and they shared a passion for classical music. They availed themselves to many live performances on the Brown University campus where he taught. What is most interesting to collectors of Feldman is his continued ability to draw detailed works either realistic or abstract years after he entered the modernist abstract world of art. Walter S. Feldman completed his art study with a BFA from Yale University School of Fine Arts in 1950 and an MFA from Yale School of Design in 1951. A student of Josef Albers upon his return from WWII, Feldman absorbed many of the concepts of Albers. However, he evolved a more expressionist style with a particular interest in symbols.
