EXTRAORDINARY TWO-DRAWER BOX WITH PAINTED FLORAL DECORATION
New Ipswich, New Hampshire, Mid-19th Century
In bird's-eye maple veneer and pine. Beautifully decorated top, sides and drawer fronts showing excellent patina with minor wear. Inscribed in pencil on back "Painted by M.M.B. Batchelder to hold Mary Ann's caps Drawers lined with paper from New Ipswich house" and on drawer bottom "J. Batchelder from Grandma Batchelder 18 Made in Painted by her about 18 Drawers lined with red & gold paper like that in John Wall's[?] house in New [illegible]". In the inscription, no additional numbers follow "18", nor a location after "Made in".
Height 7". Width 19.25". Depth 10.5".
