Description

19th century, comprising:

steerhide handle, body, and base, lined with red calf skin, hourglass shape with subtle V shaped rim, black exterior with harness stitched scroll decoration on body, a shield on each end, 6-3/4 x 7-5/8 x 5 in., accompanied by three iron forged keys on iron ring with attached fob, fob carved with letters "WBG", Ref. No. VA053;

steerhide and calfskin, the shaped sides with decorative tooling, fitted with strap handle, 8-3/8 x 11-1/8 x 4 in., Ref. No. VA063;

steerhide, sharkskin, and calf, hourglass shape with angled edges, gouged tulips, vine, and fleur de lis pattern painted with white paint, 6-3/4 x 8-1/4 x 4-1/8 in., Ref. No. VA057;

steerhide and brown calf, body with incised and painted X pattern, 5-7/8 x 8-1/4 x 4 in., Ref. No. VA061

possibly S.S. Cottrell, black sharkskin, brown calf liner and binding on top edges, brown steerhide bottom, oblong form having shaped rim, body with incised vine and leaf decorations retaining original paint, original rounded leather handle and lining, 5-1/4 x 8-3/4 x 3-5/8 in., Ref. No. VA0059;

tan steerhide, oblong boat form, body with gouged band of trailing vine decoration, retains original green/blue felt lined interior, 8-1/2 x 10-1/2 x 3-1/4 in., Ref. No. VA070;

steerhide, high sided extended oval shape, body with 3/8 in. creased wide diamond design, 6-1/4 x 8-1/4 x 3-1/4 in., Ref. No. VA022;

possibly made in Petersburg by J.H. Lamey, black shark skin sides, light brown calf skin rolled over edge and lining interior, separate leather bottom piece, underneath wood bottom covered with 19th century wallpaper, 6-3/4 x 9-1/2 x 4-3/4 in., Ref. No. VA038;

steerhide, extended oval shape, linear flat top, body with wavy sawtooth bands around body, bottom with five small leather disk feet attached with copper rivets, interior retains cardboard bottom insert with pencil inscription "Made by H.M. Gee or MGee/May 4th 1905/When this is worne renew/H.M. Gee", 6-1/2 x 7-7/8 x 5 in., Ref. No. VA013;

possibly made by R.H. Rickett, calf skin dyed red with crisscross faux Moroccan leather binding, sides, and bottom, tan body with creased diamond pattern, 7-1/4 x 8 x 4 in., Ref. No. VA026
