18th century, comprising: engraved brass and iron pipe tomahawk, flower and branch decoration on both sides with cutout rhombus and curved heart, 15-14 x 7-1/2 in.; pipe tomahawk and glass trade bead, tomahawk handle with brass tacks and blade with cutout curved heart, tomahawk 18 x 8-3/8 in., bead 1-1/4 in.; each laid in shadowbox case, 2-1/8 x 20-1/4 x 14-3/8 in.
Provenance: Estate of Dr. J. Francis and Laquita Amos, Rocky Mount, Virginia
Note: According to consignor notes, the first tomahawk belonged to John McCormack, an interpreter for Henry Timberlake, the second tomahawk and the glass bead purportedly belonged to a Shawnee ceremonial chief.
