First edition, from an edition of 573 copies, this copy number 56 of 60 on Velin de Rives, with 4 color photomontages in text and a suite of 4 black and white photomontages, with an additional original collage by Hugnet. Loose text block in publisher's printed light blue paper wrappers, with glassine wrapper. 8 7/8 x 5 1/2 inches (22.75 x 14.25 cm); [1-10], 11-[61], [7] pp., half-title, 4 photomontages in text hand colored by the artist, a suite of 4 loose black and white photomontages, laid in errata leaf, with an additional collage laid-in initialed and dated by Hugnet in stylus "G. H. 61." Fading along spine, a few small spots of bumping and wear to wrapper at edges, one gathering unopened.
Multidisciplinary artist Georges Hugnet's 1961 combines poetry, dialogue, narrative and photomontage together into a surrealist livre d'artiste. This copy contains an original collage by the artist, comprised of photographs of a woman's openly smiling mouth and some sort of foodstuffs, juxtaposed on a background of an interstellar nebula.
