Early 19th Century
each engraved with a ship and monogrammed W to plinth.
together with brass and iron fireplace tools, including a coal hood, a shovel, two pokers, and two chenets.
Height of each andiron 21 inches.
Provenance:
Andirons discovered in New York;
purchased by the present owner from Leon F.S. Stark Antiques, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1957.
Purportedly owned by descendants of Continental Army General and Society of the Cincinnati member James Giles (1759-1825) of Bridgeton, New Jersey.
