Two small hand-sewn vintage long shirts, one of brown silk brocade, with overlap and side snaps; open shoulders, chest 21in, length 53in. The other lilac with black trim; overlap with frog closure and hidden pocket; chest 16 3/4in, length 39in. Condition: Both good overall; scattered light soiling. FROM THE FAMILY OF REV. CHARLES HARTWELL (1825-1905) and Lucy Estabrook Stearns Hartwell (1827-1883); their children Charles Stearns Hartwell (1855-1931), Emily Susan Hartwell (1859-1951), and Carrie Amelia Hartwell Tupper (1864-1959); Congregational missionaries and philanthropists in Foochow (Fuzhou), China, 1850s-1930s.
