An American folk art carved stone book, probably marble, and incised "MARTIN'S / 1875" - also with an embossed F on one side adjacent to a rectangular cut notch. Chips around the perimeter, else good condition. These books were made as gifts of friendship or memorials to someone special. This book was likely made to lay flat on a surface as one side is not finished - the slot on the finished side probably for insertion of some ornament, perhaps a flag. It measures 5 1/4"W x 5 3/4"D x 3"H.
