Description
Early Qajar dynasty work of classic form, the guard chiseled with Arabic inscriptions, NASR MIN ALLAH WU FATH QARIB (Conquest from God and victory nigh!) and ALLAH AL RAHMAN AL RAHIM (God, the Merciful, the Compassionate!) With engraved brass tangbands, the polished antler grips retaining twisted wire wrap to base. The massive curved, single-edged blade forged of fine Persian black wootz, with chiseled double cartouches to right forte, the upper containing the invocation, O JUDGE OF NEEDS!, the lower enclosing the lion, symbol of Assad Allah. In its velvet-covered wood scabbard with steel mounts chiseled with Quranic verse en suite with the hilt, the chape with piercing and profiling. Late 18th-early 19th century. Overall length 96.8cm/ 38.11”. Condition II
